This was to be deployed via in-classroom PC-based proprietary FMS software training program to offload training from their FTDs and FMS devices. It would give pilots the ability to work independently and with instructors on the ins and outs of the Flight Management Systems.

Rather than working with computer screens, Air Canada wanted their pilots to have functional FMS devices, but using a genuine aircraft component in a classroom setting is technically and financially challenging. The airline approached Flightdeck Solutions to build desktop-functioning devices that would replicate the authentic feel and function of real FMS computers, while meeting their budgetary and technical demands.

FDS Solution/Approach

With a solid understanding of Air Canada’s needs and end-objectives, FDS took up the task of developing authentic FMC replicas. The effort resulted in the creation of the PRO-MX-CDU as a portable independent training device capable of working with third-party software to meet the unique specifications of Air Canada.

FDS delivered 12 PRO-MX-CDU devices, which accurately mapped to the client’s B737 fleet and equipment mix, at record time.
